Paddlers in the Mist December 30, 2014

This group wasn't going to let a little fog get in their way. With ponchos donned we set out for an excursion on the St Johns River in search of the Florida Manatee. A pair of Bald Eagles sat high in the Live Oaks watching us pass by as we headed toward the spring run. As we approached the Manatee sanctuary we were greeted by a few curious youngsters and a Momma and baby came swimming  right under our yaks. In the flooded swamps of Snake Creek we found a pair of Barred Owls that would hardly come out of their sleeping slumber and we all had a great view of the ghost bird of the backwaters. The sun alluded today us but it was a great day to be on the river and the best part about that is we never even broke a sweat ;-).
