On the Wekiva...

The Red Maples are all a flame with their reds and oranges of Fall, purple and white Climbing Astor a bloom and the river is running crystal clear. The Eel Grass swaying in the current is an amazing sight. The Little Blue Heron was the bird of the day; we must have seen a dozen of them. There were lots of Turtles out sunning and we got to see a nice size Alligator or two. Great Blue and Green Herons, Anhingas, White Ibis, Moorhens and Sandhill Cranes were all enjoying the river too. The weather is absolutely beautiful and we had a great time paddling the Wild and Scenic Wekiva River!

Kayaking the Dora Canal October 2016

Jason and Linda brought their kids out to paddle Dora Canal with us this morning and they took to it like ducks to water. Being the day after Hurricane Matthew there was very little boat traffic and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. There were lots of Anhingas out sunning, Great Blue Herons feeding, Kingfishers flying off in front of us and Woodpeckers tapping on the trees. The wind was still blowing in Lake Eustis so we tucked back into the canal and explored the back waters. It was a great morning for paddling the old Elfin River.

Paige and Zach's Ocala Kayak Tour

The Silver River was full of life this morning. With hundreds of Turtles sunning on any fallen tree, the Otters made an appearance out looking for their breakfast and the Anhingas could be seen above and below the water. Many of the birds are molting now with little chance of flight so we keep our distance and they let us paddle on by. The Wood Ducks, Green Herons, Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, Tri-colored and Little Blue Herons blessed us with their presence. As well as the Wood Ducks, Limpkins, Prothonotary Warblers and the King Fishers have arrived. We got to see a few Gators here and there, the Moorhens were sporting their new chicks, the water was crystal clear and it was an Awesome Day!

Family outing on the St Johns River

It was a beautiful morning on the St Johns River. Sirish brought his brother and the kids to see some of Central Florida’s wildlife. The Ospreys and Swallow-tailed Kites were soaring overhead, turtles were sunning on the logs and the Mullet were jumping. They say a jumping Mullet is a happy one! Up in the spring run where the water is crystal clear we could see Longnose Gar, Tilapia, Catfish and Bass just below our kayaks. After our lunch stop we drifted back on the slow northern flow for which the St Johns is famous. It was a great day with a great group to share it.
